We are excited to share that we played a key role in procuring 3,200 shiny sporks for the entire Ithaca City School District in spring 2023, with the generous funding of $6,400 from a non-profit PlasticFreeRestaurants.org promoting reusables. The initial rollout of these sporks is taking place at LACS and Boynton Middle School.
We are overjoyed that this fantastic news made its debut in The IHS Tattlers, the official newspaper of Ithaca High School. It also drew attention in Tompkins Weekly.
You can find our press release here, which includes links to resources including information on the harm on single-use plastics on students’ health, in addition to its end-of-life problems in a landfill, and environmental justice issues. Let’s also not be remiss to remember, the district stands to save money in a long run by switching to reusables.
In the spirit of cherishing these special “timetraveler” sporks from Korea (Learn more about it here!), we kindly remind everyone that these sporks should not be disposed of in trash bins.

Check out how Middletown Public Schools are leading the charge in sustainability! By switching to reusable foodware in their cafeterias, they’ve significantly reduced waste and saved over $90,000 annually. Explore the full case study to see how they’re making a big impact on the environment and student wellness.

Let’s make sure to treat them with care they deserve so that it will last generations of Ithaca students. Together, we can make a difference!
