Your help is needed in large & small ways in our all-volunteer group. We are always looking for:
- Writer to draft press releases, coalition letters, social media posts, sign-on letters, and to handle various petitions
- Social media support – help urgently needed – graphic design and video skills in Canva and Kapwing are big pluses
- Photographer/Videographer – We always need good photos and short videos. Please come to our events and help document our activities. We thank Rich Mattingly for fantastic photos on this website from the kayak trash pickup in July 2022.
- Volunteer admins for Buy Nothing: Gifting with Integrity groups – in particular, Dryden, Caroline, Ulysses, Enfield and Groton areas.
- Tabling help at the festivals and farmers’ market events
- Sewing help for cloth produce bags to give away at tabling events
- Participants in trash pickups
- Canvassers for Ithaca / Finger Lakes Reduces BYO sticker program (It’s fun!)
- Event Planners
- Art & Sign Making

Our core team meet every 4th Mondays of the month.
We ask that we share the same philosophy when it comes to how to deal with our waste crisis. As a member organization, Zero Waste Ithaca go by principles upheld by GAIA and Beyond Plastics when it comes to false solutions to plastic pollution. We oppose chemical recycling, incineration of solid waste, including WTE (waste-to-energy) incineration, autoclaves, bioplastics, direct air capture, and mail-in plastic recycling like Terracycle.
