We’re an all-volunteer group, and we need your help—whether big or small. Here are some ways to pitch in:
- Attend public meetings – Help submit written or spoken comments at hearings and council meetings. You can adapt our templates and talking points.
- Petition outreach – Connect with people who care and ask if they’ll sign.
- Put up posters – Help us spread the word by posting flyers around town.
- Table at events – Be part of our presence at local festivals and markets.
- Support cleanup efforts – Join our trash pickups. We especially need people comfortable navigating slopes and mud, but everyone—including kids—can help.
- Volunteer as a local admin for Buy Nothing: Gifting with Integrity facebook groups. Dryden, Caroline, Ulysses, Enfield, and Groton especially need new groups to launch.
- Canvass local businesses – Help expand our Ithaca Reduces Reuse Sticker Program.
- Offer digital help – Support our website, social media, or graphic design (Canva experience welcome).
- Photograph or film – Document our events and efforts to help share our story.
- Organize social events – Bring people together and build community.
- Have another idea? Let us know!

As a member organization of GAIA, we oppose false solutions to the waste crisis—tactics that delay real action while protecting polluters. These include chemical recycling of plastics, incineration (including so-called “waste-to-energy”), autoclaves, bioplastics, direct air capture, nuclear power, sewage sludge derived biochar and amendments for land spreading, and mail-in recycling schemes like TerraCycle.
Our work is rooted in real zero waste: reduction, reuse, and community-centered solutions.
